Day One

So this is floating around Facebook right now, and it says there’s no need to explain your choices, but I’m going to explain mine here!

“Post one per day, in no particular order, your 10 all-time favorite albums that really made an impact and are still in your rotation to this day. Post the cover, no need to explain your choice.”

Day One: by The Beatles

There are going to be a few greatest hits albums in this top 10 of mine. This compilation album includes classics such as “I Feel Fine,” “Can’t Buy Me Love,” “Hey Jude,” and many more.

Among other albums on my top 10, was one of the first CDs I ever owned, and I still have a majority of it in my virtual music collection. I think that impacted me because it introduced me to the Beatles, and it was one album that helped influence my overall taste in music, which tends to skew heavily toward pre-2000s rock. Listening to this album led me to more albums by the Beatles, then to the other big names from the same time period, like the Beach Boys, and beyond. I can easily say that 1 was the beginning of the great rock crusade that I embarked on early in my life.

is also the reason that The Beatles: Rock Band is one of my favorite Rock Band/Guitar Hero games, since I can play the guitar or bass and sing at the same time, and that’s a lot of fun!

  1. Interesting! I still don’t understand the Beatles…and how fandom survives each generation! I’m missing some vital music-appreciation part of my brain.

I still think of albums as vinyl and a CD is, well, a CD. Is a CD an album? Will albums fade away in this buy-a-single ADHD world? Perhaps unsurprisingly my list starts with (vinyl length!) concept albums. 2112.

    1. If the 80s nostalgia of late has taught me anything, it’s that fandom permeates through every generation when the original material is strong enough!

Well, if this makes sense at all, I see an “album” as the list of tracks, and so that can come in various forms, like the CD, vinyl, even a playlist. I actively avoid singles, at least until I’ve given the whole album the good ol’ college try. 2112 is one of Kevin’s favorites!
