So what’s with this blog anyway?

After I got married, my initials could have been either ESC or ETC, depending on whether I wanted to keep my middle name or use my maiden name instead. I thought both were so cool. The former is on every computer keyboard. The latter is an abbreviation of a Latin phrase. How did I get so lucky?

I didn’t really have a connection to my middle name for much of my life. Allegedly, it’s a boy’s name from some obscure corner of my dad’s side of the family. I had a much deeper connection to my maiden name. It was a high school nickname. It was in a classic movie quote. People remember me by that name, and I love that name.

I decided on ETC, hence the name of my blog. As previously mentioned, it’s the abbreviation for etcetera, which is defined as “and other similar things” by Cambridge Dictionary and “and so on” by Wikipedia.

This blog is a catalog of my life, but one that is obviously far from complete. The list is nowhere near being done. Et cetera is “used at the end of a list to indicate that further, similar items are included,” according to dictionary.com. Hopefully not too similar!

I gravitated to Wikipedia’s definition most and expanded on it a little: “so on and so forth.” I think that’s a good way to go forward in my life and on this blog. Totally me, rambling and all.
