I don’t mean to suggest I live in a bad community, yet whose community is perfect? There are always improvements to be made!
- Make it more walkable. Make sure no sidewalk ends randomly for no reason. Put in more crosswalks and speed bumps so that pedestrians can feel safe navigating our neighborhood. There are so many families with kids of all ages and elderly people, but they and everyone else living here deserve a walkable community!
- Challenge each household to get outside and pick up a bag of trash every week. We live right next to a state highway, and sometimes, pieces of trash and other debris are blown into our neighborhood. Not to mention litter is just a general problem in society. Take a trash bag out with you when you go for a walk or when you take your kids to the park, and pick up the trash that you see! Our parks, streets, and even yards would look much better all the time with very little effort.
- Can block parties just be more of a thing, please? We’ll start! It doesn’t just have to be saved for Sundays after church or holidays. How about going into the weekend after a hard week at work haha? This leads into…
- More community engagement in general! Neighbors swapping phone numbers, helping each other out, kids playing together outside, you name it! Planned or unplanned interaction, we could all stand to be more social with the people right next to us.
I might even make this a running list and come back to update it periodically with more stuff that I think of!
