A Leader’s Prayer

My men are all asleep.

I’m the only one awake.

But, in truth, it isn’t just me.

It’s Almighty God as well.

Here, in this chapel,

I haven’t been since I was three.

There, now, I find myself,

Bended on both knees.

I beseech the King most high,

My commander and redeemer,

“Lord, keep all of them safe.

Lord, make all of them strong,

And keep me alive long enough

To see them safely back home.”
