Inhale the winter air,
Feel it chill the breath,
Send a shiver down the spine,
Raise bumps to the skin.
It numbs your face,
Dries out your lips,
And hurts your joints.
But you step out into the snow,
The crunch of your boots
Being the only sound,
The blinding, white surroundings
Being the sole sight.
Snow falls
And gathers on clothes,
Graces eyelashes,
Melts on the tongue.
It pelts you as you walk,
Dampens your cheeks,
And makes you swear.
Yet you step out into the storm,
The goal in your mind
Being your only guide,
The sense of fear
Being your sole limitation.
There’s no turning back now.
