Day Six: The Black Parade by My Chemical Romance

I don’t have many songs by My Chemical Romance anymore, not nearly as many as I used to. But I continue to love three songs from this album: “Famous Last Words,” “Teenagers,” and of course, “Welcome to the Black Parade.”
The Black Parade was shown to me in 6th grade by my best friend at the time, Sam. So the album still reminds me a lot of her. But, uh, middle school was sort of a depressing time for me; I was the new girl at school, which was absolutely awful at times. I’d say that, along with some dark poetry, The Black Parade helped me understand my negative feelings and work through the problems I faced. As “Famous Last Words” goes:
I am not afraid to keep on living.
I am not afraid to walk this world alone.
At the time, that was my mantra. I truly thought that way. Things are better now, obviously. I feel like My Chemical Romance has been phased out of my collection over the years to reflect my changing outlook on life.
However, I can’t let go of the few My Chemical Romance songs that I’ve held on to. They have a special place in my heart. They remind me of the way things were and also the way things can be.
