Music In Media

Oh, where to begin with this post? I’ll try not to gush too much, and it’s going to be very difficult. So here we go! Uh, I love music. I love it a lot and need it in my life every single day. But I think I love it best when it’s used for movies and television.

Composers are some of society’s greatest geniuses, and I believe there are no better examples than film composers. I mean, how do these people create such complicated works and just know what some of the most beloved fictional characters and universes sound like? It’s totally uncanny. Film composers manage to come up with themes that are instantly recognizable, always memorable, defining, and everlasting.

No matter what your favorite movies or TV shows are, you can bet that the soundtrack and score have big roles to play in your entertainment as well as your passion for the material. I know that they do for me. I’m going to give you only a handful of my favorite soundtracks and scores, in no particular order. The composers behind these are some of the most talented currently in the business and the most talented of all time. I’m going to attempt to let the music speak for itself.

Ramin Djawadi – Inside Game of Thrones: A Story In Score (the video that inspired this post) and Main Theme from Game of Thrones

John Powell – Test Drive and Forbidden Friendship from How to Train Your Dragon

Klaus Badelt – The Medallion Calls from Pirates of the Caribbean

Hans Zimmer – (oh boy, so much of his work…) Elysium, Honor Him, and Now We Are Free from GladiatorMolossus from The Dark Knight, and Discombobulate from Sherlock Holmes

Howard Shore – The Breaking of the Fellowship from The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring

John Williams – (WOW, pretty much all of his work, but here’s a couple underrated ones) Becoming a Geisha and The Chairman’s Waltz from Memoirs of a Geisha

Thomas Newman – Main Theme from Road to Perdition

Michael Giacchino – The Incredits from The Incredibles

And finally, Tyler Bates – Main Theme from Guardians of the Galaxy

Damn, kudos to everyone responsible for not only the score, but the incredible soundtracks for Guardians of the Galaxy and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. I mean, c’mon! Anyway, I hope that was as fun for you all as it was for me.
